Opening of the Royal Tunbridge Wells Ice Rink

The real ice rink returns to the picturesque Calverley Grounds for the second year running and skaters can take to the ice from Friday 23 November 2012 through until Monday 7 January 2013 (closed Christmas Day).

The opening ceremony will be held on Friday 23 November at 6pm in the beautifully lit park with a display by the Invicta Junior Dynamos team (under 16’s). The combination of speed, skill and physical contact make ice hockey one of the fastest and most exciting team sports to both watch and play. The Dynamos display will showcase youth sport and the excitement of the game.

Yardley Court Boys Prep School Choir will be singing Christmas Carols and Virgin Soldiers will be performing a live set in their unique style  of classical string instruments with acoustic rock music.

It’s never too early to book your session, especially as last year the sessions around Christmas, New Year and weekends sold out fast. Tickets for the ice rink can be booked online www.tunbridgewellsatchristmas.com, or from the Assembly Hall Theatre Box Office in person or by calling 01892 554645. The on site ice rink Box Office will be open from 23 November.

The cost for one hour’s skating, including hire of skating boots, will cost from £7.50 for children and from £9.50 for adults.

New for 2012 a number of authentic Christmas Chalets will surround the ice rink. From candles to scarves, confectionery to hampers and face painters to artists, all our exhibitors are local independent businesses whose products are unique and of a very high quality.

Open everyday at the rink Spade and Spoon’s Yuletide Taste Trailer will be serving  local seasonal produce inspired by traditional Alpine Johnny’s Little Sisters Emporium will be showcasing stunning Christmas wreaths and garlands and Basil will be selling delicious wholesome home-cooked food. Even if you don’t want to skate Calverley Grounds will be well worth a visit to  soak up the festive atmosphere, warm up with a glass of mulled wine and sumptuous food and buy some great gifts for loved ones  (and yourself).
